Product Description
When photographers try to make the jump to the professional ranks, it is tempting to believe that a good approach is to mimic existing photographers who are perceived as successful. This is one of those books you’ll want to keep coming back to, but will end up buying multiple copies of because you will keep loaning it to your photographer and designer friends. I’ve just finished Fast Track Photographer and it really does live up to the press that surrounds it. Dane has created not just another book of advice and tips, but rather a blueprint for being a more successful and creative professional as well as an efficient marketer of your own unique brand. I found myself underlining passages, and taking notes in the margins of this wonderful resource. The principles are clear and inspiring, and are totally centered on what You bring to the table. Brilliant!

I bought Dane’s book after hearing other photographer swear by it at a photography workshop. It was definitely not what I expected; it was better. I thought he would preach about selling your photography instead he teaches about selling yourself.

I was fast on my way to flinging my self into several of the pit falls that this book covers, that alone was worth way more than I paid for the book (I am only through the first chapter).

    Great investment.

Stop reading all the reviews and buy it. ;)

Dane’s book is an excellent resource for any photographer who wants to break free and truly market themselves as a unique brand. The biggest paradigm shift here is to move our photography form a commodity to a truly unique and emotional experience for our clients. What we have to sell is ourselves, the photographer, not the paper on which our work is displayed. Many photographers today can sell a similar image, but no one can offer what you uniquely bring to the table.

With that said, this book will not change your business! You are the only one who can do that. What this book will do is change your perspective and allow you to focus on you as a brand.

I simply can’t say enough good things about the Fast Track Photographer. My wife has been shooting weddings for a few year, and I’ve been “helping” her a little here and there. We kind of both had an idea on what she was doing wrong, but no real way to articulate it. She found the book and started reading it… She didn’t put it down. She then took the pDNA (a self evaluation test), which comes with the book, and the results were simply mind blowing. Everything that we weren’t able to articulate was written down on the 4 page report you get after taking it. Wow. The first thing we said was… “I wish they had one for life and not just photographers.” It’s almost a little spooky how well the pDNA knows you. The beautiful thing about the pDNA is that it not only helps you discover who you are as a photographer right now, btu it also advises you on the paths and exercises to move you forward fast. I was so impressed with the results that I picked up the book and I too was completely hooked. After reading the book, I followed Dane’s advice given to me by the pDNA, and now Allie and I are days away from relaunching the business as a team. This book is exciting. Best investment you will ever make in your photography business, hands down!

I was a bit skeptical about reading FTP at first. These days, everyone has SOMETHING to sell you and buzzwords/trends abound. The result is too many people running around in circles (or backwards) putting a ton of energy into “looking the part”. Feeling the part and being driven by the need to say/present something personally compelling is where the magic happens. Dane offers a break from tradition by serving pie after pie of humility. From personal stories of “big shot” bravado to sobering stories of beign brought back down to earth. We have all been there but Dane took the courageous leap forward and admitted it. His self-reflection and willingness to share these thoughts are what make the book so “alive”.

Any good book should make us ask questions. Fast Track Photographer forced me to confront the question of “What am I really offering ?”. In the midst of being “busy”, I found that a part of me had disconnected with the joy of photography. It was very relieving to learn that my own short-comings and insecurities were experienced by others. We are not alone out there and reading this book helps to explain how we can all be better photographers, artists, professionals, humans and friends. Case in point, if all you want is money…there are a ton of other careers worth pursuing and other books worth buying. However, if photography is your calling, I would gladly recommend this book to you. Enjoy!

    Peace,
